Dr John Harkes

I qualified from Edinburgh University in 1989 and moved to Penrith where I have lived since. The first half of my career was enjoyed at Stricklandgate Dental Practice before spending 3 years in Appleby and 10 years in Carlisle in mainly private practice. I was delighted to be invited by Satya to move back to Stricklandgate in 2016 to maintain the excellent reputation the practice has rightly earned over 30 years.

I have developed interests in endodontics and oral surgery as well cosmetic dentistry in this time but still enjoy all aspects of general dental practice and enjoy keeping up to date by attending a variety of postgraduate courses. I am currently Treasurer of Cumbria Local Dental Committee as well as a past Chair and also a past Chair of the Cumberland section of the British Dental Association.

I am married to Teresa, a Dental Hygienist, and we have 2 sons who were both at school in Penrith. When family commitments allow, my spare time is spent scuba diving having dived in many places home and abroad.
